Universal Mardi Gras: International Flavors of Carnaval 2024 officially kicks off tomorrow at Universal Orlando Resort, but Red Coconut Club in Universal CityWalk is getting the party started early, as it has once again transformed into the Cursed Coconut Club.
Cursed Coconut Club Returns for 2024
This themed venue can be found on the upper floor of CityWalk, and will be open to the public tomorrow, Saturday, February 3. Tonight, the club is opening early for Universal Orlando Annual Passholders for a special preview night. Once officially open, guests can enjoy the club on evenings from Thursday through Sunday.
The Cursed Coconut Club offers themed cocktails in the evenings during the Universal Mardi Gras season. It is open to all ages and there is no cover charge to enter. See our report from last year’s version of the club overlay.
Exterior
The exterior features mossy greenery hanging from the upper levels.
A cemetery archway can be seen off to the side of the entrance to The Cursed Coconut Club.
A tombstone decorated with a wilting wreath is positioned outside the entrance.
Off to the left is a hearse carriage, driven by a skeleton and containing a casket inside. Fresher-looking flowers sit atop the hearse, with vines extending downward.
Last year’s banners for the Cursed Coconut Club had a more voodoo theme. This year scales that back with an all-green look, and a small skull and crossbones above the logo.
At night, the club’s logo and green vines are projected on the ground outside, with atmospheric fog rolling in.
Interior
Upon entering the club, you pass another gravestone with a large bust and melted candles. Vines creep over sections of the club’s architecture.
Off to the right are two white thrones surrounded by more candles, moss, and gravestones.
It’s here that we met Raven, a shapeshifter who serves as the proprietor of the Cursed Coconut Club.
Over the course of the evening, Raven may put that shapeshifting to use and take on various forms.
Just before the entrance to the dance floor is another seating area. Two black chairs sit in front of faux iron fencing covered in flowers and vines.
There are also ravens stationed throughout the club, further illustrating that Raven’s eyes are everywhere here.
The center area downstairs offers some seating and is styled to look like an overgrown garden or cemetery.
The logo for the Cursed Coconut Club is projected on the ceiling above.
Dark blue lighting keeps this section of Cursed Coconut dark and moody. Various statues of animals and human busts are set up here.
Another seating area can be found just to the side of the stairs that lead to the upstairs area of the club. More vines and flowers creep along the walls here.
Stairs
Heading upstairs, the walls have received a small bit of theming. framed stained glass windows, vintage photographs, and a section of a door hang on the walls. A potted plant sits on a small table along the way.
Upstairs
The upstairs portion of Cursed Coconut Club is styled like a speakeasy. Starting next week, guests must utilize a password to access this level.
Unlike last year, there is no seating available directly at the upstairs bar.
Behind the bar, various guitars, record sleeves, and 45rpm records hang on the wall.
The upstairs seating is lounge-style, with blue, red, and purple lighting to set the mood.
A blue brick wall on one side of the room is decorated with multiple hanging mirrors. A piano sits off to the right.
The piano isn’t exactly reachable, though, and is surrounded by barrels, other musical instruments, and a candelabra.
Sitting on top of the piano are two copies of the “Great Performances” newspaper, advertising various concerts and musical performances.
Also upstairs in one corner, guests can encounter this musician waiting for his next set. Fans of Halloween Horror Nights might recognize him as Pinestraw Spruce from last year’s “The Darkest Deal,” in which he makes a crossroads deal with The Collector to achieve fame.
Following their deal, The Collector followed Spruce by possessing people, which looked very much like our friend does in the photo above. The crossroads demon eventually took the soul of Spruce right as his first big show started, and now he’s waiting his turn at the Cursed Coconut Club.

- A refined blend of Plantation Pineapple Stiggins Rum, Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey, Dale Degroff Pimento Bitters, orgeat, grapefruit and lime juices, topped with a cinnamon-sugar coated orange slice
- Drive Me Batty – $16.25
- A rich blend of Cruzan Aged Light Rum, Kahlua, Baileys Irish Cream, and Coca-Cola. Topped with chocolate shavings
- Classic Espresso Martini – $17
- An indispensable classic – JD Hadens Espresso Liqueur, brewed coffee, New Amsterdam Vodka, and a touch of black sugar syrup
- Obituary – $16.25
- An aptly-named twist on a dry martini; Beefeater’s Gin, Martini & Rossi Dry Vermouth, olive brine, and a dash of Absente Absinthe, with an olive marinating within
- Bayou Banshee – $17
- A screamingly low country concoction of Beefeater’s Gin, St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur, Cointreau, and lemon juice, topped with an orange wheel
