It was a big year for video games tied to some of our favorite franchises, as Steam reveals their best games of 2023.
Steam broke down the biggest games of 2023 with seven different categories: Top Sellers (the best-selling games on Steam), New Releases (the best-selling games on Steam that were released in 2023), Most Played (games that peaked at over 300,000 concurrent players), Early Access (2023’s top Early Access graduates, measured by gross revenue), Steam Deck (the most-played games of 2023 on Steam Deck, as measured by Daily Active Players) Controller (the most-played games of 2023, measure by Daily Active Controller Players), and VR (2023’s top VR-exclusive experiences, measured by gross revenue).
Within each of these categories, games are ranked at different levels, starting with Platinum as the highest, then Gold, then Silver, and finally, Bronze. Only 12 games make Platinum level for each category, and “Hogwarts Legacy,” “Disney Dreamlight Valley,” “Marvel Snap,” and “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” together managed to make it in the top 12 of six of the seven categories.
“Hogwarts Legacy”
“Hogwarts Legacy” dominated the other games this year, appearing on five of the Platinum level categories: New Releases, Most Played, Steam Deck, and Controller.
“Hogwarts Legacy” is a role-playing game with a story that takes place 100 years before the events of the “Harry Potter” series. Set in the Wizarding World, the player plays as a student enrolled at Hogwarts and begins a journey through the Wizarding World. The game is available for Playstation 5, Playstation 4, Xbox Series XS, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC Digital Download. It retails for $59.99 to $289.99, depending on the edition and game system.
“Disney Dreamlight Valley”
“Disney Dreamlight Valley” made it onto one of the top lists, Early Access.
This life simulation game takes you into Dreamlight Valley, a land with residents from Disney and Pixar films. When a curse takes over the valley and causes them to lose their memories, you’ll play as human character tasked to remove the dark magic. It is available for Playstation 5, Playstation 4, Xbox Series XS, Nintendo Switch, and Digital Download. It retails for $39.99.
“Star Wars Jedi: Survivor”
“Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” hit the top 12 for New Releases.
This sequel to “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order” follows Jedi Knight, Cal Kestis, as he’s tasked with surviving the rule of the Galactic Empire five years after the events of the previous game. It is available for Playstation 5, Xbox Series XS, and Digital Download. It retails for $69.99 – $89.99.
“Marvel Snap”
Finally, “Marvel Snap” is included in the Platinum level for Early Access.
The digital collectable card game features cards with different Marvel characters. Each player has a deck of 12 cards and will play against others in a game of six rounds. It is available for download on Google Play, the Apple App Store, and Steam.
