Goodbye Masks, We’re Ready for Our Close Up: Universal Studios Hollywood Photo Report 2/26/22

Quiet on set; we’re ready to roll! We headed out to Universal Studios Hollywood today to see what life is like without a mask now that the health orders have changed once again. So come along to see everything we found at Universal Studios Hollywood in today’s photo report.

Aside from the masks, the biggest story of the day is the start of construction here on the backlot. This is the same tent structure and flats used for Halloween Horror Nights mazes and even though it’s a little early to begin construction, we’re hoping that’s what this is. Read all about it right here.

And from our vantage point checking in on the possible HHN construction, we get a great view of the park and CityWalk.

From here, it really shows how Universal Studios Hollywood is right in the heart of LA.

CityWalk Hollywood Health Guidelines

The health order changed for LA County, leading the park to change its guidance for guests but CityWalk has kept its indoor face covering rule for now.

With the new health order, the vaccination check remains in place regardless of masks.

In the park, the new mask guideline signs are at the entrance to every indoor space. They now reflect the order for only unvaccinated guests to wear masks.

And these signs are prolific. From tip boards to wait time boards, to free standing signs in the walkways and at building entrances, they are everywhere.

Despite the relaxation of the rules, many guests still opted for wearing masks indoors.

Though also, some did take advantage of the new freedoms.

In all, it was roughly a 50/50 split of masked versus unmasked guests inside.

Outside, however, most guests were unmasked.

Overall, about 80% were unmasked outdoors which is a much higher ratio than when the outdoor mask orders were lifted last week.

Crowds were high today, with many attractions at the one-hour mark or higher for wait times.

In other news, The Simpsons Ride refurbishment is still underway. The ride is currently closed while the refurbishment is taking place.

We also noticed that in the Universal Studios Store, the 2022 Beijing Olympics merchandise is now 50% off for anyone who wants to rep the event now that it’s over.

Let’s check in on Super Nintendo World.

There haven’t been any major changes since last week’s check in, but progress is still definitely plugging away.

The decorative elements that are being built on the doorway are continuing to take shape.

We also saw the Fire Department roll up at the back entrance of the construction site. It didn’t seem like any huge emergency, as the first responders were staying in the truck the whole time we were watching.

Po the Panda USH

And waving goodbye to us on the way out was Po the Kung Fu Panda. He is out greeting guests for the last few days of the Lunar New Year celebrations, right next to The Noodle House. If you can’t make it out to the restaurant before it closes at the end of the month, check our review to see a couple of great offerings that we tried upon opening.
