Orange County Will Let COVID-19 State of Emergency Executive Order Expire Today

With COVID-19 cases on the decline, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings has announced that he will let the executive order declaring a state of emergency expire as of this afternoon.

The announcement comes as the county reports a positivity rate of 3.51%, the seventeenth straight day that the rate has been under five percent. Currently, the Centers for Disease Control lists the county as having a substantial level of transmission, though it is expected that it could be downgraded to moderate levels if the current situation holds. Demings has stated that should cases rise again, the executive order could be reinstated in an attempt to keep any outbreaks contained. The order was declared back in July, when Demings asked that everyone, regardless of their vaccination status, wear masks indoors.

What this means specifically for Orange County’s theme parks, which include Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort, is currently unknown, though it’s been suggested that certain mask mandates could be altered to reflect the new landscape. As of the writing of this article, no rule changes from either resort have been announced.

    • We are the opposite. We have trip booked for Christmas that we haven’t paid for yet. Will will only pay and go if they don’t have the masks indoors. We will cancel if they still require masks.

      • We are going in March 2022. We were there Christmas 2020. Masks 24/7. Not fun. I stood in front of the castle for my husband to take a maskless picture. I got away with it because I was eating stationary. They tried to stop us, and they backed off when they saw me eating a sleepy hallow waffle sandwich.

    • What? Why? You can get vaccinated and be well protected. Those work much better than masks. And at what point would you be ok with lifting masks? They can’t stay forever.

      • There are people who can’t be vaccinated for various medical reasons and currently children can’t get the vaccine although hopefully that will be available soon. I suspect more mask requirements will go away once children are vaccinated.

    • What? Why? You can wear a mask if you want; no one will stop you. Also you can get a vaccine and be protected; those work much better than masks. And at what point are you ok not requiring masks? We can’t do this forever.

    • Wow. Following the science? Florida has the lowest Covid per capita in the county right now, despite places like Universal Studios allowing indoor masks for months.

  1. The hygine theater with the masks at both Disney and Universal simply need to end. Here’ some real “science” to follow – Florida now has the lowest per capita COVID cases in the U.S. (despite what the media will want you to believe). I keep pushing out our WDW trip until I know all mask mandates are lifted, not because I am scared of COVID (I am OVER IT!) but because I am not spending 7500 for week of masking on while vacation with small kids. Ridiculous.
