The Orlando International Airport (MCO) is expecting to reach almost 90% of its pre-pandemic travel numbers on this upcoming Memorial Day weekend.
In 2020, MCO recorded only 45,415 departures during Memorial Day week. With 300,000 estimated departures this week, traffic is up 550% from last year.
Phil Brown, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority said, “Our Memorial Day holiday passenger forecast indicates that we are approaching 90 percent of pre-pandemic levels, which is a testament to the resiliency of Central Florida. A combination of factors including the vaccines, availability of seats into the market and pent-up demand all point to a potentially strong summer travel season.”
Walt Disney World and other Orlando tourism destinations have been slowly increasing capacity as vaccines become more widespread and more guests travel to the city.
