REVIEW: Italy Tasting Booth at the Mardi Gras 2021: International Flavors of Carnaval at Universal Studios Florida

The Mardi Gras 2021: International Flavors of Carnaval is being celebrated at Universal Studios Florida from February 6th to March 28th, and there are food booths scattered throughout the park with different food options from different cultures. For this review, we’ll be taking a look at Italy, which actually has two different food booths in the parks.

*NEW* Italian Rainbow Cookie: Colorful layers of almond cake sandwiched with raspberry jam and coated in chocolate – $4.49

The Rainbow Cookie was very dense. The almond cake was distinctly layered in Mardi Gras colors, green, yellow and purple and had a generous amount of festive colorful sprinkles on top.

We found the cake to be very moist and the raspberry jam wasn’t too sweet. We also enjoyed the chocolate coating on top which complimented the flavors well.

You could taste the raspberry in each bite and we appreciated that the cake was fresh.

*NEW* Cannoli: Italian pastry shell, chocolate chip cannoli cream, chocolate shavings – $4.99

We found the Cannoli to be a bit of a disappointment.

Unfortunately, the shell was just too soft and broke into pieces. The cream was good but we couldn’t find any chocolate chips in the filling.

*NEW* Arancini: Fried risotto, wild mushrooms, truffle, parmesan cheese – $5.99

italy-tasting-booth-arancini

The arancini came with three fried risotto balls that were stuffed with mushrooms, truffles and parmesan cheese. They were good but we wished the portion size was a little bigger.

The tomato sauce underneath had a sweet basil flavor which perfectly balanced out the other flavors.

We loved the arancini so much that we would be willing to pay more if it came in a bigger size.

*NEW* Affogato: Vanilla gelato served with a double shot of espresso – $5.99

The taste of vanilla gelato really shined through in the Affogato. The double shot of espresso was the perfect pickup we needed.

The consistency stayed pretty solid and cold, even on a hot day, allowing us to use the tiny spoon to scoop up bites of the gelato between sips.

*NEW* Fantinel: 3oz Prosecco – $6.00

*NEW* Vietti Moscato d’Asti: 3oz Slightly sparkling sweet white wine – $6.00

*NEW* Querceto Chianti: 3oz Red wine – 5.00

*NEW* Cantina Zaccagnini Montepulciano d’Abruzzo: 3oz Red wine – $5.00

All in all, we really enjoyed the items we tried at the Italy Tasting Booth. The Arancini was by far our favorite but we would also come back for the Rainbow Cookie and Affogato. We would definitely pass on the Cannoli next time.
