PHOTOS, VIDEO: Tour a Remodeled King Bed Room at the Newly-Reopened Loews Portofino Bay Hotel in Universal Orlando Resort

Join us on a tour of our room at Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, which just reopened at Universal Orlando Resort. That’s right, we were on the ground for the grand reopening and decided to take in everything the resort has to offer, from dining, to its stunning Tokyo DisneySea-esque facade, and of course, accommodations.

We’ll start off with the full video tour, complete with Tom’s thoughts and some comparisons between other Universal Orlando Resort hotels. (Spoiler Alert: Sapphire Falls still reigns supreme.)

Universal’s flagship resort has some of the most beautiful facades and outdoor spaces, reminiscent of the Italian Riviera, or Italy’s Liguria region.

Once inside the resort’s halls, the arched doorways and warm tile further the theme, however we did notice some inconsistencies with the latest remodel.

We opted for a King Room, which has received a slight refurbishment throughout the closure.

The room is sizeable enough to be comfortable, however some of the style choices may not be everyone’s cup of tea… or espresso.

Despite being a king room, this actually sleeps three, with an armchair that also folds out into a twin-size bed.

Though the room has some extravagant design elements, the bedsheets are plain white. The bed skirt also seemed slightly oversized, giving the bed an almost sloppy appearance.

It has a blue tufted headboard, and a light attached to a mirror above the side table.

A holdover from the previous room design, there’s a marble-topped table with two chairs.

The lamp has a built-in outlet.

The bedside tables also have a marble top, along with a shelf and drawer.

Outlets are built into the back of the side table, however you’ll only find USB ports by way of the alarm clock that was added during the last refurb.

The dresser has two sets of drawers.

The door in the middle reveals a small drawer above the mini-fridge.

The iron and ironing board are in the hall closet.

The safe is also built into the closet wall.

As you enter, a small coffee stand is available, with a single-cup coffee maker, disposeable cups, an ice bucket, two small Zephyrhills waters, and a mini resort-themed hand sanitizer bottle.

There are tea pods and creamer also included.

The ground-floor room didn’t offer much in terms of views, since we mainly had a view of the security booth and boat dock. We’d highly recommend requesting a higher floor, or even asking for a Juliette balcony upon check-in.

Unlike our neighbors, we didn’t have a balcony so much as a section of mulch. Do note that these outdoor patios are also alongside public walkways, so you will need to mask up out here.

Back inside, we had a spacious bathroom. Note that the tile mirror has been replaced by a more minimalist mirror that looks like something from Pier 1.

The shower is lined with brown tiles.

We had generic conditioner, shampoo, and soap in the shower—most Universal resorts have transitioned to custom or themed toiletries, so this was somewhat of a disappointment.

Before the refurb, there was a shelving unit in this corner, which helped fill out the space more. Now it seems that’s been tossed out with the refurb, leaving a bit more dead space in there than we’d like.

There is a mirror on the back of the bathroom door as well.

There were more shower amenities sitting on the counter—holdovers from the previous design which leaned into the Mediterranean style much more heavily.

Last, but certainly not least, we really enjoyed the plush bath mat on the floor in front of the vanity. For being such a small touch, it really elevated the comfort and luxury of the room.
