On our visit to Universal Orlando Resort today, we came across testing of a new prototype Evolv contactless security scanner. In our experience, this type of scanner can help create speedier security experience at Universal Orlando Resort!

As we came in from the parking garage, we spotted the testing area beside the moving walkway.

This scanner was just being tested when we visited. With these new contactless scanners, guests are free to walk through without stopping or having to put their bags through a metal detector system. Guests with any large metal objects, like umbrellas or large battery packs, must simply hold them out in front of them as they walk through. We saw these same scanners get rolled out across Walt Disney World theme parks and Disney Springs earlier this year.

As the 2021 opening of Jurassic World VelociCoaster approaches, Universal is likely looking for ways to prevent bottlenecks as increased crowds are expected.

It’s unknown if and when these scanners will replace the old metal detectors. Of course, that would require an overhaul of the current security screening area into CityWalk.

We’re definitely looking forward to an even smoother security experience at Universal Orlando Resort.
