Tropical Depression Eta Strengthens On Path to Florida; Storm-Force Winds Forecasted in Orlando Area on Monday

Tropical Depression Eta continues to strengthen as it moves across the Caribbean on its way to Florida, according to the National Hurricane Center.

According to the latest public advisory, Eta is on track to arrive in Cuba on Sunday, bringing heavy rain and “significant, life-threatening flash flooding and river flooding” to the island before heading to the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, the Bahamas, and southern Florida by Monday.

Central Florida, including the Orlando area, currently lies on the edge of the cone of probability, with storm-force winds expected to arrive between 8 AM and 8 PM on Monday. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the region, possibly needing to be upgraded to a Tropical Storm Warning later today.

Walt Disney World’s Hurricane Policy states that a Hurricane Watch or Warning must be issued for cancellation or change fees to be waived, while Universal Orlando Resort’s policy offers similar waivers for Hurricane and Tropical Storm Warnings.
